About Root Record

Root Record Software Systems is a software company in Hawaiʻi. Alexander Storey owns and runs it.

We develop practical software, automation, and SI-assisted workflows, supported by systems we operate from Hawaiʻi. This page introduces the team and the principles behind our work.

What we offer

Our products include business tools, weather information, and volcanic activity alerts. We also build custom software and workflows around specific needs.

We also publish what our systems measure. Reports holds short written readings, and Systems shows the live readings. If a reading is missing, the page says so instead of filling the gap.

How we operate

Three servers and a website. Our main server is a solar-powered desk in Hawaiʻi. Power there is a real limit, so when it runs short, we do less and keep the desk up. Two more servers on the US mainland run other parts of our work and help us recover if the desk goes down. The website runs on its own node, apart from all three.

Measured data kept apart from the record. What our systems measure is stored in one place, the RootRecord Database. What we've decided and checked is kept in another, the RootRecord Library. Keeping them apart means a measurement never gets mistaken for a decision, and a decision never gets passed off as a measurement.

Human-directed work. Our digital agents assist with defined development, review, and operational tasks. Alexander directs the work and retains responsibility for decisions.

Our team

Alexander Storey owns and runs Root Record, and he makes the decisions. Root Record's agents each hold a role in the business, and each answers to Alexander.

Ava: Design and Public Voice

Carly: Security, Billing, and Honesty Checks

Bruce: Building and Operations

Therapist: Team Continuity

Design, review, and implementation are distinct responsibilities. Alexander makes final decisions, and production changes are reviewed before release.

Standards

Our records use four labels:

If we don't have a number, we write Waiting or No data. We don't publish estimates as facts.

Carly checks every number and claim we write for the public. If it isn't confirmed, it goes out labeled as what it is, or it doesn't go out.

Some things never go public: secrets and credentials, details of how our security works, exact locations, and anything shared with us in private.

Media and music

Creative projects are part of Root Record's work alongside software development. The individual agent pages introduce their creative interests and published work.

The agent pages below have more on each one.
